Description |
Palmetto fiber doll, early-mid 20th century. The doll has one band of patchwork (black and white) and three bands of applique (white and orange). It has a distinct face: black horizontal with white vertical lines for eyes, a 3D nouse, and a mouth wtih teeth showing. There are yellow seed bead necklaces and an unusual hairstyle; the "hair" appears to be made of rolled textile or stuffed with a filler (most likely cotton) to produce a rolled/pufed effect. This item was purchased in 1938 from one of the Seminole reservations by the parents of Gene Diamond. The item was then donated to the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum in 2021 by Gene's wife, Corinne. |
