Description |
(1) Beaded necklace made by Tina Osceola composed of sixteen strands of Swarovski crystals, in blue, black, dark red, dark orange, light orange, and yellow colors and twenty-one silver coins. The coins, found on the oustide layer of the necklace, have been hung from the last yellow crystal strand are are composed of (18) dimes, (2) quarters, and (1) half-dollar. The lobster claw style closure is made out of silver. The artist's father, O.B.White Osceola, Sr., assists her with the drilling of holes in the coins. In order to avoid drilling through the heads on the coins, he flips the coin upside-down. This appears to be a cultural avoidance versus a personal or technical choice. In addition, the artist mentioned that any necklaces made with "pearls" were not made with real pearls but a glass-pearl alternate in order to follow the tradition that states that they should not wear shells. |
