Description |
(1) Patchwork skirt that belonged to Lucy Tiger, grandmother of the donor of skirt, Virginia Tommie. The skirt has a red background with four bands of patchwork in various colors (yellow, blue, orange, black, white, pink, red). The bottom trim is a composed of a white and blue vertical linear pattern. The waist area is a lighter pink colored textile with a floral trim/ tie. As per Ms. Tommie, Lucy Tiger was a medicine woman who lived through the 2nd Seminole War. During the war she would remove her beads every night and store them in a bundle. Should the camp be raided, those running could take the beads to safety. This was significant in that it shows the importance of culture and the continuance of it during that difficult time. |
