Color linen postcard of a Seminole man and woman seated on a wood platform making crafts. The woman is making a doll and the man is carving a sofkee spoon. Dolls, toy canoes and baskets are on the platform on platform in front of them. Above the image is printed "M-9 "Seminole Indians in the Everglades"" and below the image is printed "6A-H1705". This postcard has the textured feel of linen postcards with a high rag content (1930-50s). Printed on the back of the postcard is "Thomas R. West, Miami, Fla. C.T. Art Colortone Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. Made only by Curtteich & Co. Inc., Chicago." There is a handwritten message and address on the postcard. The address is: Blanch Yaugler, 131 E. 204th St. Cleveland , Ohio. The message reads, "This is the way the Indians dress when cooking for company. - Other wise a pretty dirty job. Glad you are home from the hospital. Uncle F said he was going after you - Aunt Alice." (?) There is a green stamp with George Washington's profile on it. The postmark reads Miami, Fla., Feb 25, 1939, 10:30pm and "Buy U.S. Savings Bonds Ask Your Postmaster." |
