Catalog Number 2000.121.4
Object Name Plate
Description Cap Plate, 1814 - approximately 1825, First Seminole War period, eagle over a shield with "1776", "Unity is Strength" above the eagle, possibly worn on a stovepipe, tarbucket, or 1830s style shako. The motto and the 1776 date indicate that this was more likely to be militia than Regular Army issue. The prescence of gilding indicates it was used by an officer or an artilleryman, rather than by an infantryman who would have had a silvered plate.
