Object Name Matchbook
Description Ouray, Ute chief, matchbook with biography. Copyright 1979, Ohio Match Company, Wadsworth, Ohio U.S.A. 44281.

The matchbook has the bust of Ouray on the closing flap printed in brown, yellow, green, black and orange on a yellow background. He is labeled, "Ouray" and "Ute Chief". The text panel on the back has a horse design in the top left corner and reads, "Ute chief Ouray, the head of an aggressive mountain tribe in the Rockies, favored peaceful policies, but was met with oppression from men seeking fortune from the gold discovered on their lands."

The flat matches have black fronts and backs with blue sulfur tips.
