Half tone photoengraving printing block consisting of a wood block with what appears to be a copperplate attached to the top. The copperplate holds an image that is similar to a photographic negative of a man in a suit with a metal pinned to his lapel. A piece of paper attached to the side of the wood block reads: "Fig 69a Dec 1923 Anthropologist". Engraved into the bottom of the wood block is "Mauric Joyce Engraving CO. Washington D.C." Written in pencil on the back of the wood block is "Anthropologist". The image on the copperplate appears in an article written by Speck: Speck, Frank G. "Mistassini Hunting Territories in the Labrador Peninsula." "American Anthropologist", New Series, Vol. 25, No. 4 (Oct. - Dec., 1923), pp. 452-471. The image appears with one other image on page 470. The caption for both images read: "Fig. 69. - Mistassini Types: a. Joseph Gunner. The medals were given by the Hudson Bay Co. factors to faithful hunters at the three hundredth anniversary celebration of the Company at their various posts in 1921; b. A Mistassini woman and child." The "a" under the picture signifies that the image is of Joseph Gunner. A copy of the article is in the main accession file for the collection.
