Colt Paterson Ring Lever Rifle, early Colt longarm manufactured 1837-1841; .44 Calibre, 8 shot cylinder
The exhibit label for Tools of War (2011) reads: The Colt First Model Ring Lever Rifle was manufactured in 1837-1838 with only a total production of about 200. Pulling the ring lever cocked the hammer and turned the cylinder for each shot. .34, .36, .38, .40 and .44 calibers were available and the 8 shot cylinder was standard. This was the first of Colt's longarm production and ironically, Colt's initial factory production of firearms was in rifles, the Number 1 Ring Lever, and not in handguns, which came a few months later. Thus, the First Model Rifle is of extreme importance to any Colt enthusiast.
