Object Name Matchbook
Description Washakie, Shoshoni chief, matchbook with biography. Copyright 1979, Ohio Match Company, Wadsworth, Ohio U.S.A. 44281.

The matchbook has the bust of Washakie on the closing flap printed in brown, yellow, green, black and orange on a yellow background. He is labeled, "Washakie" and "Shoshoni Chief". The text panel on the back has a feathered headdress design in the top left corner and reads, "No other Indian tribe did more to help white settlement of the West than the Shoshonis led by the great chief Washakie. He peacefully accepted white men and was rewarded with a reservation on chosen land."

The flat matches have black fronts and backs with blue sulfur tips.
