Large hand carved wooden mortar (30cm wide, 55cm tall). The tag says it was obtained from Little Tigertail. The mortar is round and the diameter is as wide as the cypress tree truck that was used to make it. The bottom of the mortar sits flat against the ground, and the top of the mortar has a cavity carved into where the food product would be crushed. The mortar is well used and shows tool marks from use (pounding by pestle) and from carving. The mortar leans slightly to one side (see images). There is a substantial tide line around the base of the mortar from water damage. There are two areas of faded green paint near the top edge of the mortar. This green paint matches the green paint found on Pestle 2006.2.31, so it is likely that this mortar went with the pestle.
