Catalog Number 1995.14.164
Object Name Letter
Scope & Content letter is not dated. It was written between 1835 and 1838. It is most likely that it dates to 1838, the year the Ellen moved to Langollen and Manne went to Europe, between letters 1995.14.23 (when it is remarked that Aunt Molly has left for New York) and 1995.14.30 (when Aunt Mary is said to have finally returned to New York), assuming Molly and Mary are same person.

letter from Ellen Brown in Florida, at La Grange, to her brother (Mannevillette Elihu Dearing Brown) in Oneida County, NY. She mentions that Aunt Molly has gone to New York and Manne will hear from her there. She wonders when Manne will come to Florida, and says she has not had a letter from any of her siblings recently. She also comments on the nature of flirting and the differences in the practice among men and women.
