Letter written to Manne Brown (Mannevillette Elihu Dearing Brown) in New York, from his sister Ellen (Brown) at La Grange. She mentions that the town she lives in is full of tittle-tattle (gossip), but that it wouldn't interest him because he has no acquaintences there. She says her health and her spirits are better. She says she never writes to him of the war because she imagines he reads about it in newspapers. She says the latest news is that "General Taylor had taken four hundred Indians", and that if he has not heard of this, she'll tell him more about the war.
