Scope & Content typed TRANSCRIPTION of a letter from Captain Anderson at a camp near Vera Cruz, Mexico, to his wife Ellen Anderson, on March 29, 1847.

He says they have taken Vera Cruz. They destroyed about 1/3 of the town, and many women and children of the poor classes were killed, as well as the daughter of the British Consul. He says he has not gotten a letter from Ellen recently and he hopes she is not directing them to Montery. He also says that in General Taylors fight with Sanat Anna near Saltilio, he drove him back to San Louis. 5000 Mexicans were killed and over 1000 Americans were killed.
