Scope & Content Silas Casey to his wife Abby; He writes from Fort King E. Fla.; re: being in command at Fort King and getting stung by a scorpian. Includes, "I shall command there for the present....Four companies of our Regiment....The other night while encamped at the Wacassassee a Scorpion crawled into my bed and stung me between the shoulders....All the country north of a line from Pelican Creek on the Atlantic to Fort Fanning on the Suwanee is to be turned over to the Volunteers for protection. A thousand of whom are authorized to be raised. The Regulars will operate south of that line".
