Letter written by Thomas Gold in Columbus, Georgia to Mrs. T.R. Gold in Whitesboro, Oneida County, New York. Thomas writes of having not recieved a letter recently and believes if a letter was written it may have been on the steamboat Wm. Gibbon, the same boat he originally took to get to Charleston. The boat was due to arrive in Charleston on the 12th and had not been seen or heard from yet. It was believed that the boat with its 200 passengers on board went down in a storm that hit on the 11th. Thomas states that he will never again take that route for travel.
