Scope & Content Excellent 1838 letter from Mo. from the U.S. Agent to the Osage Indians, folded letter with black Boonville, Mo. codes and black FREE, addressed to "Hon. A.P. Maury", (Abram P. Maury, 1801-48, in Congress from Tenn., 1835-1839), at Washington D.C. Lengthy 2 1/2 page letter contents, datelined "Osage Agency", May 24, 1838 from "S.P. Harris, U.S. Special Osage Agent". Excellent content in which Harris gives his views on the condition of the Osage and their future prospects. There is an approximate 1 3/4" x 1" hole near top of 1st sheet, affecting just a few words and on 2nd sheet, has been expertly repaired, with loss of only a few words.
