The document is difficult to read with the writing on the backside of the paper bleeding through to the frontside. The first page of the document appears to be some tiype of contract or agreement that two men, John A. Haynes and Benjamin Stevens, are entering into service during the Indian Campaign in the Jefferson Corps in place of U.N. Johnson and Alexander Scott.
"An agreement that John A. Hayne, and Benjamin Stevens, would serve as substitutes for U.N. Johnson and Alexander Scott in the Indian Wars with the Jefferson Corps. They would recieve $30 and $25 respectively per month plus rights to draw the rations and pay due from the service. Ratified by James Gadsden on back." (from seller's description)
